Research Director’s review

Research activities carried out at the Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira provide information on food safety as well as on animal health and welfare.

This information is useful in the targeting of controls, legislative drafting and the development of international standards and instructions, in risk assessments and in various lines of business, including agriculture, the food industry and improving animal welfare. Scientific research also supports the authority’s reference laboratory activities and the related methodology development.

Our newsletter showcases Evira’s research activities by providing information on events and publications.

I hope that this newsletter on our scientific research will find its niche in providing information on Finnish research.

Evira involved in the popularisation of science

The interaction between science and society has become a central theme in the science community. It combines the interests of the operating environment with those of research.

As decision-makers in society, trade and industry, as well as consumers, need an increasing amount of reliable and up-to-date information, the aim is natural interaction with society. Scientific research at Evira is linked with its duties and influence in society.

Evira’s traditional open events, the Science Day and research seminars, play an important role in the popularisation of science, as do the annual seminars on current topics in risk assessment.

Evira’s news releases on scientific articles published in peer-reviewed journals, and doctoral theses conducted at the authority are also important means of communication for disseminating and popularising research results, as well as for interaction between researchers.
